Mayme A. Grabowski, 86 of Decatur died 1:05 p.m. Sunday (December
20, 2009) in Heartland Manor Care Nursing Home. Funeral service will be
2:00 p.m. Wednesday (Dec.23, 2009) at St. John’s Lutheran Church
2727 N. Union Decatur, IL. 62526 with Pastor Russell Weise officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church. Burial will be
in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery Decatur. Memorials may be made to the
church.
Mayme was born April 24, 1923 in Tompkinsville, KY., daughter of James
and Opal Page Robinson. She worked in her early years at the munitions
plant in Illiopolis and later worked in the manufacturing plant in Decatur
making parts for the atomic bombs of World War II. She worked at the Hi-
Flyer Kite Mfg. Company in Decatur. Mayme worked as a cashier and
office manager and retired from Eisner Foods. She married Emil “Ivan”
Grabowski December 14, 1940 and he preceded her June 11, 2006.
Surviving are her children, Richard L. Grabowski of Carbondale, IL., Jill
(David) Davis of Decatur, grandchildren, Andrew Grabowski of Chicago,
Adam Grabowski and Nikki Grabowski of Carbondale, Amanda (Scott)
Peters of Orland Park, IL., Luke (Melanie) Davis of Kalamazoo, MI.,
brothers, William (Mary Margaret) Robinson of Decatur, Kenneth
(Shirley) Robinson of San Antonio, TX., Clifton Robinson of Phoenix, AZ.
and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Melvin
Robinson and an infant brother.
Mayme loved her family and loved making her home a lovely place. She
also loved her church and her Lord. She was a wonderful mother,
grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by her family
and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heartland Manor Care for all of
their loving care and concern for our Mother.
