Charles H. West, 80 of Decatur, died
Sunday October 25, 2009 at his home in
Decatur with his family by his side. He was
born March 24, 1929 in Sturgis, Kentucky,
son of Nealie A. and Talitha P. Sheridan
West. Charles served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean Conflict. Charlie was
employed for 33 years at the St. Mary’s
Hospital Laboratory, retiring in 1993. He
married Mary Ann Williams August 15,
1953 in Providence, KY.
His wife of 56 years, Mary Ann survives,as
well as one daughter, Sandy Fitzgerrel
and son-in-law, Bill, of Decatur, one
granddaughter, Meghan Fitzgerrel and
fiancee’ Rick Mangrum of Collinsville, IL.,
one grandson, Sean Fitzgerald of
Decatur. Also surviving are one sister,
Junel Collins of Henderson, KY., and one
brother, Buddy West of Sturgis, KY.,
several nieces and nephews. Charles was
fortunate to have an extended family here

in Decatur, The Vetetos, Martha Ooton, The Blankenships, and the many friends
who called and visited him in the hospital. He was preceded in death by his
parents, four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held at Galilee Baptist Church on Christmas Tree Road Tuesday
October 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at the church Wednesday
Oct. 28th at 10 a.m. with another visitation one hour before service time. Burial will
be in Lester Barnett Cemetery with Military Rites by Macon County Honor Guard. .
