Lorene S. Spires, 93 of Decatur died 9:10 p.m. Saturday (August 29,
2009) in Fair Havens Christian Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday (Sept. 2, 2009) in the First Baptist Church of Ramsey, Illinois
with Rev. Glenn Sparks and Dr. Robert Poinsett officiating. Visitation will
be one hour before service in the church. Burial will be in the Ramsey
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of
Ramsey.
Lorene Brown Spires was born May 13, 1916 in Fayette County, Illinois,
daughter of Rev. Ed and Noy Rhodes Brown. She graduated from
Vandalia High School and was a secretary for the Ramsey Township
Supervisor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ramsey.
She married Fred Spires March 11, 1936. He preceded her in death
March 4, 2005.
Surviving are her son, Myrle and wife Janet Spires of Carbondale, IL.,
daughters, Brenda Poinsett and husband Bob of Union City, MO., Judy
Mills and husband Norman of East Peoria, IL., Linda Cochran and
husband Butch of Decatur, IL., sister, Louise O’Dell, 12 grandchildren, 23
great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Marilyn
Spires Dothager and 2 brothers.
Thanks to Dr. Wall for caring for her so many years. The family would
also like to thank Dr. Khan for the care he gave her during her stay in the
nursing home. We want to thank all of the staff that worked at station
four. We appreciate the love and care you gave our Mother.
